CLASS EXPECTATIONS: Classes will last an hour and fifteen minutes. Students will be expected to clear their area at the end of each class. Supplies and projects in progress may be left in the studio each week in a designated area, which should make clean-up a quick process! Caring for our supplies is an important practice. On Saturdays throughout the year, there will be an instructor-led lesson where we focus on a particular topic, such as portraits, still life, gesture studies, landscapes, etc. I want to be sure students gain exposure to something new each session. The weekly classes will be “Open Studio” style, with some exceptions. According to the needs and requests of my students, I will offer special instruction in specific areas, but participation in that special instruction is optional during weekly classes. I will not be offended if anyone wants to continue with their personal art project aside from the group instruction. I want you to be satisfied with your time in the studio! In my experience, the Open Studio approach serves students well. They are allowed to choose the subject they want to explore. I feel it is important that the artist be allowed to create what lights a fire in their belly! Students will also choose the media they use to create each piece, but I plan to offer suggestions based on their goals for the artwork. In the Open Studio setting, I will be available to offer guidance, suggestions, resources, demonstrations of techniques, etc. Most of this will be one-on-one instruction as needs arise during class. Classes will be kept small (8-10 students per class), in order to maximize guided practice time. Individual attention is important to me. Independent practice is just as important. I want students to feel confident in making their own color choices, brush choices, etc. They need freedom to experiment and find techniques and a style all their own. Even young ones who are truly interested in art will surprise you with their sophistication in this area! Seasonally, we will exhibit students’ work in the gallery for public viewing. There is no fee for this additional night. It is intended to be a celebratory occasion for the students! Students will be asked to have at least two pieces prepared for the exhibit. An evening will be scheduled for an Open House so that family and friends in the community can come into the gallery and enjoy refreshments while viewing all our creative work! In true gallery style, students may offer their pieces for SALE if they like. Students will take 100% of this home, minus any framing costs if applicable. You may frame yourself if you would like, otherwise I may provide a simple mat or frame (according to availability) for display purposes. When time allows, I will photograph students' artwork and make prints and note cards available for purchase that students may themselves sell for a profit, if so desired! Please be sure to read over the Policies Form before completing your Registration Form. I look forward to working with my students at Personal Artist Studio & Gallery! What better way to build art appreciation in the community than to showcase our LOCAL ARTISTS here on Main Street!
