"I am constantly amazed at the beauty all around us.  Light illuminates all that we see and in my paintings my desire is to capture the emotions in facial expressions or body language, dancing shadows, bursts of light and the vivid colors it reveals."

Privileged to have been born in Charleston and to have grown up in the 1950’s on sparsely populated Sullivan’s Island, Norma Ballentine is thoroughly immersed in the people, places, and culture of the South Carolina Lowcountry.  After a 35 year respite, devoted to raising her two children and completing a career with BellSouth, Norma is “painting like a madwoman.  It is now my time to pursue my passion and explore the wonders of painting,” she exclaims.
Don’t be too surprised to see her climbing through the bushes, wrapped up in an easel along side the road, leaping from a moving car to capture points of interest, and covered with paint from head to toe.  Her paintings represent the spirit of an empty nester that has now been set free to fulfill a lifelong dream!
Norma delights in capturing unique people, wildlife, places and experiences, not only in the Lowcountry, but also around the world as she travels.  She credits her “roots” in art to Virginia Fouche Bolton, her very dedicated and enthusiastic high school art teacher.  As a symbol of thanks and praise to our Creator,  the greatest painter of all, the cross is part of her signature on each painting.
Commissions for paintings are thankfully and cheerfully welcomed.
